Hello future World’s Ascent Competitors!

The long awaited cycle of asking for “wen Worlds news’ now ends! Today, we will be unveiling information about Team Standard, the new format debuting at our open Path of Steel Worlds Ascent.

We felt the introduction of this new format will make the event more accessible for everyone who wishes to compete while simultaneously diversifying the amount of decks showcased at the tournament.

Team Standard: 3 VS 3

In quick summary, Team Standard is a 3 versus 3 mode in which you play in A,B,C vs A,B,C formatted Best-of-1s. However, there is a twist! Playset restrictions are shared across all of your teammate’s decks. This applies to both the main deck and the material deck.

Material Deck Example: You may not all use the same exact spirit, thus right off the bat, the whole team should feature at minimum 2 unique elements–or a Lost Spirit if you’re feeling really spicy.

Main Deck Example: You may split 4 Creative Shocks across the 3 players. Player A may have 2 Creative Shock Cards, Player B may have 1 Creative Shock Card, and Player C may have 1 Creative Shock Card. This restriction applies to all cards enabled in standard play.

This methodology ensures teams are collaborating with each other during the Deck Building Process, creating combinations that best suit their team’s strategies while still playing into strengths as individual competitors.

Team Standard Format

Players: 3 per team; if any of the 3 players are unable to participate, you are automatically disqualified.

Main Deck: A 60-card main deck with no more than 4 copies of any card

Material Deck: 12 unique champion and/or regalia cards.

Side Board: NONE

Playset Restrictions: Standard Constructed; Card restrictions are shared across team

Time Limit: 50 minutes + 5 minute overtime and 5 minute judge extension

Games Played: 3 individual best-of-1 games; the team that score the most points receives a Match Win

Points: Game Win - 3 Points | Draw: 1 Point | Loss: 0 Points.

Additional Rules: Teams must declare their seating order before the tournament begins and must remain in this order till the end of the event. Team communication is only allowed with the player seated closest to them.

The exact rule sets for this format are subject to change, but competitors will be given ample notice.*

Communication Is Key

In this format, teams will decide how they are seated in A,B,C format. Teammates may communicate to the person closest to them.

Communication Example: Player B can communicate with both Player A and Player C; but Player A cannot communicate with Player C and vice versa.

Whether you choose to put your best player in the middle so they may help their teammates is up to you. But be warned, if you spend too much time trying to help, you could potentially jeopardize your team’s chances of advancing.

As a side note, we will also be watching for disruptions that fall under distractions. If a judge deems that a team is deliberately causing distraction through communication, they may issue warnings and rulings within reason.
